Description/Dimensions: This is a wonderful example of what I believe to be a special order piece or possibly an extremely rare communion jug. This jug is signed Rev. W. A. Lawton, July 19, 1859. It is approximately four gallons in size, but could be a little larger. Nice drip glaze. Not signed by dave, but without a doubt, it is his work. This jug was found near Estill, SC close to the old Lawtonville settlement. Reverend W.A. Lawton may have been one of the early leaders of this settlement. It is believed his congregation may have given him this very jug as a gift or perhaps for his services. Reverend Winborn A. Lawton is buried in the Lawtonville Cemetery just outisde of Estill. He was born June 23, 1793 and died February 28, 1879. His wife Lucinds and daughter Miss Anna are buried beside him.

Damages/Repairs: Found with next photo.

Damages/Repairs: At the time of Rev. Lawton's death, the jug was most likely used to water the slaves in the field. This is why the top was knocked off, making it easier to pour water out. Please note that the hole where the top was located has been worked smooth. It is generally felt the top was knocked off intentionally to better suit the next mans needs.

Description/Dimensions: Marks are three slashes, thumb nail punch and fabric imprint. Condition is very good.

Damage/Repairs: Has two chips on the rim with a crack from one of the chips down to the top of the shoulder. Has a small chip and nick under the rim of one handle. Also has some lite crazing.

Description: "Early Decorated Stoneware of the Edgefield District South Carolina" Greenville County Museum of ARt, 1975. To the best of my knowledge, this was the FIRST museum catalog published on Edgefield pottery. The catalog is in excellent shape.

Description/Dimensions: Very good condition.

Damage/Repairs: Two chips, one on rim and the other under rim. There are three small areas on rim that the glaze has been knocked off, and there is some crazing in areas. Line in the picture make it hard to see.

Description/Dimensions: Rare one. Mint condition, 3 1/2" tall Edgefield pitcher or creamer. Nice alkaline glaze. Is very heavy like holding a cannon ball. Has been stored in an old building here in town (Acworth, GA) for years and has just came out.

Damage/Repairs: No chips or cracks.

Description: Almost 250 pages, about 25 pages of black and white photos, glossary of terms, this book covers nearly every imaginable potter, pottery, marks used, as well as glazes for those in the trade of pottery in NC, SC, GA, AL, and MS.

Description/Dimensions: Edgefield 2 gallon storage jar that is 12" tall and 31" in circumference. Nice alkaline glaze with green runs all over it.

Damage/Repairs: Three dings around the rim and a hole the size of a pea under one handle.

Description/Dimensions: two gallon Edgefield jug in perfect condition. 13" high and 32" in circumference. Beautiful alkaline glaze that has runs all around it.

Damage/Repairs: Not a chip, flea bite, hairline or anything.

Description/Dimensions: Dirt dish done in a heavy brown glazing. Looks just like the bottom of a Baynham jug. Fresh picked out of Aiken Co. 7" wide and 1 1/2" tall.

Damage/Repairs: None described.

Description/Dimensions: One gallon Edgefield jug. 13" tall and 7" in diameter. Has a greenish alkaline glaze. has an "X" mark incised on shoulder. Crude compared to other BF Landrum jugs. I tend to lean toward this piece as being thrown by Dave. He worked at the BF Landrum site for several years. This is a BF Landrum jug for sure. Compare this with the picture in the "I Made This Jar" book page 77. The tops are the same. At any rate this is a nice marked piece of Edgefield.

Damage/Repairs: Few buldges in the clay with one pop-out by the handle that the pictures show.
