Description/Dimensions: Edgefield Chandler Decorated storage jar piece from Chandler site in 1980s. Measure 6 1/4" x 10" in size.
Description/Dimensions: Lovely greenish glaze with what appears to be a looped decoration around vessel but actually gathering thick drippy glaze. 11 1/2" x 4 1/2". Mint.
Damage/Repairs: One tiny blow-out partly covered with glaze.
Description/Dimensions: Two gallon Edgefield jug. Incised "2" near top. Incised "X" about three inches from the "2". Mark has been attributed to Dave. Marks stand out very bold. Green alkaline glaze.
Damage/Repairs: Repaired handle. Few imperfections in the glaze that looks like semi-circles.
Description/Dimensions: Two gallon John Landrum jar with original lid. Lid is unglazed as they often were. Nice green alkaline glaze. Marked with 2 slashes. Made between 1840s and 1860s. Rare to find with a lid.
Damage/Repairs: Great condition with rim having the only wear/damage due to lid being placed on and taken off so many times over the years.
Description/Dimensions: 20" tall and 45" in circumference.
Damage/Repairs: Originally had two handles. No cracks or other damage.
Description/Dimensions: Three minatures bought at Old Edgefield Pottery. Measurements range 2" x 2", 2 1/2" x 1 7/8" and 2 1/2" x 2 3/8". Created and signed on bottom by Stephen Ferrell. Included with auction is Mr. Ferrell's business card.
Damage/Repairs: None listed.
Description/Dimensions: Believed to be Pottersville. Dating around 1825 to 1830s.
Damage/Repairs: Flea bite on rim can hardly be seen.
Description/Dimensions: Three gallon jar with light green alkaline glaze with ruetil made by Dave. Double rolled rim and has the marks "...XI". Punctuates are made almost in a slash form. The X and I follow the punctuates. From the Lewis Miles site that was thrown by Dave in the the early 1800s.
Damage/Repairs: Rim has a chip off about 1 1/2".
Description/Dimensions: A contemporary revival piece. Measures 7 1/2" x 7" including the handle.
Damage/Repairs: No damage.
Description/Dimensions: By Georgia potter, Lin Craven, a reproduction to resemble Edgefield face jugs from the 1850s. 7" tall. Strap handle face has off white eyes with holes for pupils. Mouth with two rows of kaolin teeth. One continuous "snake" eyebrow. Large ears with pointed center cones. Piece is signed, in a high gloss, speckled glaze.
Damage/Repairs: No damage.
Description/Dimensions: Early Edgefield ovoid shape with broken stem flower. Dates to 1850s. 15" tall, 39" circumference and mouth opening is 4" in diameter. Estimated to be 4 gallons.
Damage/Repairs: Portion of the lip has been repaired but it would take a museum expert with detect it with the naked eye. Excellent overall condition.
Description/Dimensions: This jar I believe is a fake. Jar is very early and well made but the black slip loops just did not look right. Can't guarantee this to be the real McCoy.
Damage/Repairs: No chips or cracks.
Description/Dimensions: Alkaline glaze with almost a salt glaze effect. Early piece. Unknown maker. No marks visible.
Damage/Repairs: No damage.
Description/Dimensions: Edgefield pitcher attributed to John Landrum. Pinched spout, ridge around the lip. 7 1/2" tall, less than a quart.

Description: Ash Glaze: New & unread. Traditions in Ancient China and the American South by Daisy Wade Bridges with Margery Adams, Catherine Mackelfresh, and Billy and Susan Hussey published in conjuction with the Ceramic Circle of Charlotte and The Southern Folk Pottery Collectors Society, 1997 with a special dedication to Burlon Craig.
Book explores the ancient pottery making and glazing tradition of ancient and modern day China and how those practices are influenced and practiced in the American south.
Description: Index of Southern Potters by Howard A. Smith Considered the Bible of southern pottery. Third printing being sold as new - mint condition. Covers 17th to 20th century.
Description: Brothers In Clay: The Story of Georgia Folk Pottery by John A. Burrison Mint-Unused-Unread. Out of print. Hundreds of photographs. Contains information on Georgia, Edgefield, Catawba Valley.
Description/Dimensions: Brownish, green alkaline glaze. Lug handles and coil thrown. 14 1/4" tall, 13" at widest point. Weighs 18lbs. Dates to the mid 1800s. Note the four slave marks and the finger prints left by the potter at the lower edge of the jar. Purchased in 1990 from a Georgia collector.
Damage/Repairs: Handles show some chipping. Two shallow chips to the body of the jar that look like blow-outs from firing, some wear to the top rim and some glaze skips. Blow-outs are 3/4" x 1/4" and approximately 3" away from one another.
Description/Dimensions: Wonderfully marked Dave piece. Under rim in large, hand incised script, is "Lm - Oct 10 - 1861" and just below the year is "Dave" in large script. On the back is a slash "X" just to the left of the handle. 13 1/2" tall x 13" diameter at the widest point. Base and rim are both 9" across. Very well formed, rich grey-brown alkaline glaze with deep olive drippings. Neck is beautifully tooled below rim, and lug handles are symmetrical. Marks are inscribed horizontally below rim and the overall impression of the pot is that Dave had reached a degree of sophistication not often seen in his early work.
Damage/Repairs: continued on next photo.
Damage/Repairs: Thoroughly original and unrepaired. There is a 5", stable, hairline crack running down from the front rim between Dave's signature and the handle. Another 4 1/2" hairline crack runs down from a 1" chip on the underside of the rear rim. There is a 3/4" chip on the corner of one handle and a 1 1/2" chip on the edge of the same handle. The wear on the base and inside of rim and a few small glaze scuffs on the outside are consistent with many years of use, but could not be termed serious flaws. The inside looks as good as the outside.
Provenance: Collected in NE Georgia in summer of 1973 by a young Texan who wife was attending Emory. It remained in his private collection until he sold it to the present owner in the 1980s.
Description/Dimensions: Characteristics of "Dave" from the 1850s. 14" tall x 12 1/2" in diameter at its widest point. Base is 9" across and the rim is 9 1/2". Well-formed, mottled, rich brown alkaline glaze. Classic, early style tie rim and lug handles. Marks are clearly inscribed on shoulder just below rim. Running vertically just under the rim in large, hand incised script, is "Lm". To the right of that mark, there is a double slash mark.
Description/Repairs: Continued on next photo.
Damage/Repairs: Thoroughly original and unrepaired pot. There is a 1 1/2" chip on the edge of the rim on the back side of the pot. Lower back has a 2" x 3" shallow depression (not visible in photo) which was made during manufacture. There are some small chips on the lug handles. There is normal wear on the base and very small chips on the inside of the rim consistent with many years of use. Overall condition is very good. Inside of pot also looks good.
Provenance: Collected in NE Georgia in summer of 1973 by a young Texan who sold it to the present owner in the 1980s. The winning bidder will receive the names of the two previous owners.
